“The wisdom of the prudent is to give careful thought to their ways; But the folly of fools is deception.” – Pr. 14:8
I’ve spent time meditating on this passage this morning, and here’s what I’ve observed.
Prudence is not something we hold to be a strong quality or character initiative in America as it once was. Why is that? What keeps us from giving careful thought to our ways? We watch young celebrities making videos doing drugs and posting them all over the internet. We watch corporate giants fall as their hidden schemes are found out.
Rather than giving careful thought, many people today have succumb to the idea that we can have whatever we want whenever we want it. Consequences have no bearing on the decision making process. Yet, God declares that the prudent will give care thought to their ways. My dad used to tell me, “Think before you Act or Speak.” Great advice Dad. Thanks.
Do you know anyone who wants to be a Fool? I sure don’t. According to this Proverb, God declares that a good time without careful observation of how I will have fun is folly.
Another way of thinking about this is in how we set goals and go about achieving them. Let’s say we have a goal of making straight A’s in school, but we stay up late, play too many video games, watch t.v., hang out with friends, and then cram just before the exam. Anyone who asks might hear something along the lines of, “I’ve been so busy getting ready for this exam.” Grades come out and you receive a C.
The question today is simple.
Are there areas of your life where you set out to build something, but your actions or folly are getting in the way of your desired results? Are you building a Bridge to Nowhere or will your bridge make it to the other side of the lake? Be careful not to deceive yourself. Results never lie!
May God Bless You!
