Over the last nine weeks, I’ve been taking a course with my real estate firm teaching inside out transformation of the mind. In the course, Dianna Kokoska of Keller Williams Realty, teaches laws of operation. I’d like to share a few of the laws we discussed and then turn to a very appropriate scripture to tie this all together. Change the way you look at things and the things you look at change. How you participate in here is how you participate everywhere. Complaining = Garbage Magnet Want = Lack What you focus on Expands I’m not going to share all of the exciting “laws” that were shared with us during the course, however, there were a few dozen. What I do want to impress upon you is the power of our thoughts on how we show up in life. We are all called to be Faithful Stewards of God’s household, wouldn’t you agree? Then why do we act as though we are lacking anything? Would you agree that the creator of the universe has at His disposal any resource He needs at any given time? I recently shifted my thinking to realize that I have no reason to doubt for God’s providence in my life. He promised it. The perspective in which I viewed provision was off a bit. From the inside out, we are all called to change how we view the world and everything in it. Repentance or the greek word metanoia actually means a changing of the mind or thought process. When Jesus called us to Repent for the Kingdom of God is near, the call was to change our point of view. Didn’t Paul call us to Make our thoughts captive to Christ? Better yet in Romans 12:1 Paul warned us to no longer “conform to the patterns of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – His good, pleasing and perfect will.” We are called to transform our minds from the inside out. The idea of money is not all that impressive. Follow me here. I’m sure you’ve heard some of these worries expressed by Christians around you (maybe even you)… “I would like to do…but we just can’t afford it right now.” “I’m struggling and don’t know how I can pay the mortgage right now.” “I’d like to go on that mission trip, BUT I can’t afford the time off. I have bills you know.” God’s House, right? God’s possessions, right? God’s provision? Hmmm…I think many of us are trapped thinking we’re the providers. Following Jesus is about becoming less dependent and trusting in self and more dependent and trusting in the Lord. Recorded in John 8:31-32, Jesus told the Jews who were following and “Believed” his message, “If you HOLD to my teachings, you are REALLY my disciples, THEN you will know the truth, and the TRUTH will set you free.” The first key to knowing [...]

Have you ever wondered why some people are successful at almost everything they do while others seem to struggle for everything they have? I’ve often wondered why this is the case. In my life I’ve seen this truth over and over again. I’ve struggled in one way or another most of my life. In 1994, my best friend and I used to talk about this very idea. I was struggling to pay rent one month after I was unemployed for a spell. Things always seemed to come easy to him. It didn’t seem right. I felt like a complete loser in so many ways. 20 years old and broke. What now? How would I possibly make enough to cover my share of the rent. Why did it seem so easy to him? I’ve seen this played out over and over during the last 20 years. Am I any wiser for it? I don’t know about that, and I can say that comparing what is going on in our insides to other people’s outsides is a lesson that is notable. Last I checked, we can’t see what is going on inside others, their fears, doubts or otherwise. Within the church I can say I see a major difference. Ask and it will be given to you, seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened. – Jesus, Mt 7:7-8 Faith or Fear? What is your default operating system? When money and problems are in front of you, which comes up? Do you think the worst things about all the reasons you won’t have what you need? I know a lot of Christians who intellectually know this verse. I know a lot of people who have heard the verse. I know very few who meditate and actually believe Jesus that we can ask for anything and we will receive it. Doubt and Fear stop us. What are we afraid of? Success is built on trusting that if we are God’s stewards, why wouldn’t he give us success in what we ask for when we ask with pure motives? Ask – Get comfortable asking God for whatever you want. If you can’t ask God for that raise in private, how will you have the courage to ask your boss? If you want to send your kids to summer camp, to a special school, or take a family vacation, ask. Jesus promised that when we ask, we shall receive. Seek – After you ask, do you seek out what you’re looking for as if you already have it? Why not? I know a lot of people who ask, and then wait as if magic will deliver it. Seek is your Action step in the formula. Take action toward what you asked for. Take action toward the promise God already provided for you. I believe there are many answered prayers [...]

This is an amazing poem that I was introduced to the other day… “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, “Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?” Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” – Marianne Williamson Amazing! What will this mean to you? What will you do with these words? Financial success is not about hoarding for yourself, but rather it is about becoming more and letting your light shine in places you would not have been without the money. Money is merely an idea, a thought, a value proposition. It can come in the form of coins, credit cards, travelers checks, or cash dollars. Any way, it only represents what you and the other party believe to be true about its value. FEAR of success is playing small. We were born with a purpose of letting our light shine in this world. We were born to reveal the glory of God to others. We were meant to grow and serve the world. Fear is paralysis of our very purpose. You were meant for this. You were born for it. May God Bless you richly in your efforts to let him shine in your life!

Why are so many people living in fear of job loss or ability to keep the lights on? Why are so many Christians living in fear of losing their homes? Jesus called us to follow him. He called us to become like him. He promised we would be tempted and persecuted as He was. Why then is it a surprise when we are tempted with the same three things that Satan attacked Jesus with? Provision, Power, and Protection. Luke and Matthew both recorded the temptation account of Jesus with the most detail. In each account Jesus is baptized and then immediately led away into the desert where He spent 40 days being tempted by Satan. 1. Provision The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.” Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man does not live on bread alone.’” Luke 4:3-4 After a few days without food, doesn’t the grumbling start to get to you. What if you have kids and they are complaining of being hungry? I’ve heard many people complain towards God about their daily rations. Food and Shelter are two of the most basic needs that our heavenly Father knows we need to sustain us. Could it be perhaps God is teaching us during difficult times of limited provision to rely on Him alone and not on our ability to provide for ourselves? I know hunger. I know the pains of hunger. I also know the worries of life that come with hunger. I’ve lived the worry of providing for my children and wife each simple meal. During it all, only God truly sustained us. I don’t know how we had enough, but we can only credit God for our provision. 2. Power The devil led Him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. And he said to Him, “I will give you all their authority and splendor, for it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. So if you worship me, it will all be yours.” Jesus answered, “It is written: Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.” Luke 4:5-8 How easy is it to cast aside our faith in exchange for earthly glory? Power and riches are an allure that gets to the very heart of things. More so than food and provision. The temptation to have it all has driven men insane for centuries. Yet, Jesus combats this temptation with his knowledge of the scripture. He knew His place with God. When you’re tempted with promotions, new business opportunities, or new jobs, how do you respond? Do you consider only the financial or business aspect of what you’re doing? Do you consider how a position like this may jeopardize your worship to the Lord? A good friend of mine recently shared a story of his youth when he was offered a position as a [...]

What an awesome question. We get that all the time, and in fact, I often wonder if people ask Dave how his program compares to the Bible and God’s word. Are we asking the right questions? To those of you out there who are having difficulties with your finances and you have a deep faith in God, my question is are you turning to God or to Man to help you? “Trust in the Lord with ALL your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in ALL your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.” – Pr 3:5-6 Financial success is not found in man’s teaching. One of the things we are very careful about in our teachings is pointing people toward financial sector products and services. Why? As a banking veteran, I have 16 years experience of training that came out of the industry. While in retail banking management, it was part of my job to train my sales staff on our products and services to ‘sell’ our banking customers. In the mortgage business, I went through training after training on how to ‘sell’ our different mortgage products to different families. Take a close look to the amazing damage done in the last decade over loose financial regulations. Go into the public school system or even in the university school system and look at who creates the limited financial educational programs out there. In most cases, our best gurus come from the insurance industry, the brokerage industry, the banking industry, and my personal favorite, directly from the Federal Reserve system. The Federal Reserve and gov’t agencies are responsible for creating the educational programs that keep people in financial slavery. Much like the slogan, ‘Drink Responsibly’, the world’s financial sector doesn’t want their patrons to stop borrowing. That is how they make their money. The Rich get richer and the poor get poorer. When a Financial Guru is teaching to get out and stay out of debt, how can he accept support from financial firms who sell debt instruments with heavy advertising to the such? I find there to be a lack of congruence in the message. Mixed messages. Everyone has need for financial services within the world we live. It is incredibly important for people to understand what they are buying when they sign up for easy loans, credit cards, stock accounts, and the like. Why don’t banks, life insurance companies, accounting firms, brokerages, retirement planning companies, home and auto insurance companies, supplemental income insurance, etc., talk to each other to design responsible plans for people. Monthly payments. Debt. Service plans. All of these things are designed to make the providers more money while showcasing their ability to provide ‘security’, ‘peace of mind’, ‘enjoy the golden years’, etc. Why then are so many people so stressed out about money? Why are the numbers of people losing their homes so high? Why are the number of bankruptcies increasing year after year? Why are college students among one of [...]

It’s the age old question, right? Why does a good God let bad things happen to good people? It is a question for the ages. One I won’t attempt to answer here. What I do know about our God is that he is about equality for all. Note, I did not say all men are equal. Some are born in wealth, while some in poverty. Some have health while others are sick. A simple reading through the book of Ecclesiastes gives even a casual reader the sense that the sun comes up on both the righteous and the unrighteous. Rain falls on the fields of both the wicked and the pure of heart. Good and bad things happen to those who honor God and to those who do not honor God. What I’ve found in my study of successful people throughout scripture and throughout my small corner of the world, is that when they are hit with adversity and bad things, their faith is activated and their work begins. Adversity is born for the one who will persevere. It is not for the faint of heart. No Adversity is the Wall between what you say you want and what you will actually do to get it. Faith, Hope, Love, and Prosperity all must face adversity of some kind to test their resolve. The good stuff is on the other side! Remain faithful and true to the One who can save you from Adversity’s sting. He is Faithful. He gives to those who ask and do not doubt? How do you know there is no doubt? Adversity is a bump in the road, not a stop sign for those folks. Live in step with the Spirit today in full courage! When bad things happen to good people, they put it in perspective. They assess their situation, and turn their focus to the God who can save them from their current state while actively pursuing a righteous end to their situation. They typically will seek many advisers who have faced similar trials. They fearfully and courageously move forward until the solutions are provided. I honestly believe that bad things happen to everyone. Unfortunately, bad things happen to people who do not honor and live their lives to please God. When these things happen, all too often these “good” people shift the blame on God and use their circumstances as their excuse not to believe in a god who would ‘do’ such a thing to ‘them’. Folks, the truth is that victims don’t get anywhere in this life. This so called “good” person is his own worst enemy simply by the perspective he chooses to carry. Paul warned Timothy long ago to watch both his life and his doctrine, for in doing so he would save both his life and his hearers. Doctrine bleeds directly into the actions of a man’s life. In the same way, the actions of a man’s life bleeds directly into his doctrine. Those who watch and listen are [...]

Debt Reduction and Weath Production are two of the most evasive financial goals people face today. Why do you think? I’ve heard this multiple times in multiple ways, but it goes something like this, “Whatever you focus on expands.” Today I want to take a moment to share a great success story from one of my coaching clients. We’ve been working together for just under a year now and they are doing phenomenal! Near bankruptcy and broken in spirit is how they came to me when we met at the New Mexico Christian Association of Parent Educators (CAPE) Homeschooling convention last April. (We will be there live April 18-20, next month) They hired me to coach them through their difficulties to find God’s way in their mess. Listen closely to their story, as I’m sure it will inspire you as well… Thomas and Laura are the picture of determination and true followers of Christ. They quickly recognized what they were doing was not God pleasing. With some simple suggestions and recommendations, they’ve quickly turned the corner to a new life direction of financial debt freedom and are quickly moving toward increasing their assets and investments. The biggest reason why so debt reduction and wealth production are so evasive for so many is the lack of focus they give to their efforts. Proverbs is full of wisdom for living, right? Imagine if you were to actually search for wisdom and understanding like a buried treasure, silver, or gold? Hmmm? There’s a thought. King Solomon said we would find it. Imagine if we tied wisdom and understanding around our necks like a garland of grace? Life and Prosperity are ours. Proverbs also warns that the borrower is a slave or servant to the lender. What if our choices never put us in a position of financial slavery or servitude? Too many people ‘want’ to be out of debt. Unfortunately, they won’t put in the work needed to ‘get’ out of debt. Too many people ‘want’ to gain wealth, and unfortunately, they too won’t put in the focused energy necessary to create it. Want is not the same thing as determined effort. Just because you want something does not mean you will get it. Your want must translate into focused action. I want a steak, and unless I get up to fix it, I won’t get a steak. Paul is very clear in his letter to the Philippians when he told them to put the things he told them into action. (end of Chapter 4) When there is no debt and increasing wealth, imagine the good that can be done to advance the Kingdom of God. Most of the debt we carry is self indulgent. Jesus warned that anyone who cannot deny himself and take up his cross daily, cannot be His disciple. As Christians, we should not be voluntary slaves to the lender, but rather we are servants of Christ. Isn’t it time to put down the debt and learn how to [...]

In a stroke of genius the other day, Co-Founder, David Libby, finally figured out what we do…lol. For the last few years we’ve been teaching Christians the importance of Stewardship in their daily walk with God in this life. Financial stewardship is important as we’ve discussed previously. What we’ve struggled with is how to explain what it is we do when people ask. David has been studying Cultural Apologetics as of late and realized that finances fall under the culture of the day. Cultural Apologetics is essentially a Biblical approach to explaining how the Church and the culture affect each other. Mainly, how does the culture impact the teachings of the Church. We captured some ideas here in this quick video. We’d love to hear what you think, so please send us your comments, thoughts, and feedback to this idea. Thanks! For more information about M Power Learning Group and other resources, visit our resource center here Additionally, you can meet us live at the NM CAPE Homeschooling Convention in Albuquerque, NM April 18-20. We would love to meet you.

On Thursday night my friend, Sean Remington, invited me to a life changing event where I was introduced to Joseph and JoAnn Callaway, authors of Clients First. You all know how much I encourage life long learning and growth through our work. The three keys we teach are stewardship, increase, and legacy. Thursday night was about increase for me and legacy for the Callaway’s. In our studies of Jesus and how we are to be when we follow him, one of his greatest teachings is to put others first. Love one another. Serve others. Make yourself less. Lay down your life. The master was amazing in his ability to have compassion on and for others. The Callaway’s captured that very essence in their book and in their work over the last decade plus. Clients First is putting others before self. The result? Joseph will tell you they started in real estate because they were broke. That is no longer the case. The Callaway’s deep seeded desire to put clients first has allowed them to serve more that 5000 families in the last decade selling more than $1 Billion in real estate. Success is not about you. Success is about the people you serve. When they are successful as a result of your service, you can claim you’re successful as well. Order your copy of Clients First today and change your client’s lives forever. For more resources from M Power Learning Group, visit our online store.
