Debt Reduction – Should debt settlement be part of my plan part 2
Yesterday's post received some great responses. It is interesting to see the emotions attached to money in both good and bad times. Christians who are 100% convinced they serve God and NOT money can test their faith based on their emotional response to money situations.
I received this response from one of my coaching clients this morning regarding yesterday's post about Debt Settlement Companies. It is appropriate that we discuss this, in detail.
Hi Joshua,
I'm wondering about your Read more [...]
Debt Reduction – Should debt settlement be part of my plan?
In a recent article (today), by Darren Hatfield, he suggested carrying over $10,000 dollars in consumer debt as a good thing. The argument he makes in his article is that the legal limit for debt settlement consideration is $10,000. Great. Good. That's fine Mr. Hatfield.
What our country needs is more ways to throw out our integrity and 'escape' our responsibilities. If you don't know what a debt settlement company does, they essentially 'help' consumers reduce the amount of debt they Read more [...]
Debt Reduction: A Blessing & A Curse
In 1998, I was at the point of proposal to my wife. I was 'heavily' in debt. I say heavily, because at that time I owed approximately $6,000 on all of my folly and was only earning $1900 per month before taxes were taken out. At least $350 per month of my hard earned prosperity was walking right out the door. I couldn't seem to get ahead. I wanted to get married, but not with all that debt!
Maybe you can relate to my struggle. I spent some time in counsel with my pastor and bought Read more [...]

3 Keys to Biblical Abundance in Difficult Financial Times!
In the middle of the night, in September of 2006, Albuquerque banker, Joshua Christensen suddenly woke from a deep sleep and pounded out a mission statement to change the world through Fiscal Stewardship. Since 1996, he has helped thousands of believers in financial council, but in 2006, he did not know what his new mission meant. A very short time later, in January of 2008, he lead his first small group discussion based on the Read more [...]
When Opportunity Knocks…
What do you say when opportunity knocks? Are you ready? Do you tell opportunity to come another day? Are you ready? Are your finances in order?
I was at a presentation that my good friend and mentor, Greg Sofio, put on today. He was speaking on his book, Honey, I Quit My JOB. The main focus of the talk was the 3 Mindsets we need to truly create wealth. He shared this quote that got me thinking…
“One Secret of life is for a man to be ready when opportunity comes.” – Read more [...]
Putting the Cart Before the Horse Part II
Yesterday, I shared the idea that Good Stewards of God’s Wealth will take care of their financial house before they go off to play.
Today, I want to share some of the signs of playing first, aka folly, rather than taking care of business before playing. Take a look at King Solomon’s warning.
“I went past the field of a sluggard, past the vineyard of the man who lacks judgment; thorns had come up everywhere, the ground was covered with weeds, and the stone wall was in ruins. I Read more [...]
Putting the Cart Before the Horse Part I
Have you ever heard the warning of not putting the cart before the horse? It hasn’t always made a lot of sense to me until recently. One thing is for certain, having a good strong horse to PULL you toward your goals is much easier than asking the horse to push.
As I study King Solomon and his advice offered in his proverbs, I notice some very keen ideas that may seem dated at first glance. In fact, these ideas may sound so dated that people were given the nickname ‘Prude’ if Read more [...]
3 Ways to Raise Your Financial IQ
My uncle and aunt visited today. Annually, during January and February, they leave the cold Kansas City winter and hit the road with their 5th wheel to travel the Great Southwest. As part of their retirement they enjoy being together traveling. During dinner, my uncle and I had a great discussion about the differences in how wealthy people think versus the average Joe.
While staying in Kingman, AZ last week, he had the opportunity to meet the owner of the RV park where they stayed. Read more [...]
3 Things People Want to Know About Money
In my research and conversations with people over the last several years, there are just 3 things I’ve noticed that people want to know about money.
How do I Get Money?
How do I Spend My Money?
How do I Get More Money?
It’s quite comical to be honest. We are a breed of people that revolve around the gathering and consumption of money. Think about it. Why do you have your job? Most will answer, you like helping people, you like solving problems, you like working with people, Read more [...]
What Use is Money in the Hand of a Fool?
Have you ever heard the phrase, "Your money is burning a hole in your pocket." Unfortunately, I have, too many times to count. My father used to tell me that when I was growing up. I had a love for baseball cards, and every time I had some money, I ran to buy more cards. I loved the game and I loved all the players. It made sense that I'd collect the cards and some day they might actually be worth something.
I didn't save any money. I didn't use the money for anything really worthwhile, Read more [...]
